Topicals Secures $22.6M with Backing from Angel Reese and Rema

Topicals, a skincare brand founded in 2020, has secured new funding to expand its reach. The latest investment round pushes its total funding past $22.6 million. Among the backers are high-profile names like basketball star Angel Reese and Nigerian musician Rema.

Olamide Olowe launched Topicals after struggling with hyperpigmentation and chronic skin issues. Alongside co-founder Claudia Teng, she developed a science-backed skincare line targeting long-term conditions. The brand has since sold over 1 million eye patches and gained celebrity endorsements.

The latest funding round includes investments from Reese, Rema, and Asika—manager of Nigerian-American singer Davido. Rema will also join as a creative partner, focusing on marketing to younger consumers, especially men. Olowe has noted that many investors still see Black-owned brands as niche, which can limit opportunities for scaling.

Topicals is now available in five countries: the US, UK, Canada, Nigeria, and France. Despite industry challenges, Olowe remains optimistic about the brand’s future, pointing to its unique focus on chronic skin conditions as a key driver for growth.

With fresh funding and new partnerships, Topicals aims to strengthen its market position. The brand’s expansion into multiple countries and celebrity-backed marketing could help it reach a wider audience. Its science-driven approach to skincare continues to set it apart in a competitive industry.
