Tokyo train handles are repurposed for use in WA Table Lamp design.

Consumers are becoming increasingly eco-conscious in their purchasing decisions, prompting product designers, particularly those who prioritize the environment, to consider the materials used and their potential for recycling and upcycling. This focus is highlighted in the WA table.

In the heart of design, two visionary minds, Akasaki and Vanhuyse, have created a unique piece that beautifully encapsulates the spirit of Tokyo - the WA Table Lamp.

Crafted with a supporting structure of sleek, mirrored stainless steel legs, the WA Table Lamp stands as a testament to modern design. But it's not just its appearance that sets it apart; the lamp's construction is as innovative as its design.

Each WA Table Lamp is produced with 150 carefully crafted rings, nine of which are reused from rescued train strap handles from Tokyo's Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line 8500 series. These rings, adorned with a subtle, crackled effect that celebrates their first life aboard the train, form the lamp's main body.

The lighting feature of the WA Table Lamp is equally intriguing. Small, deliberate gaps allow light to softly filter through, creating a warm and inviting ambience. This design element was inspired by the original white colour and circular form of the train handles.

The WA Table Lamp is not just a beautiful piece of design; it's a sustainable choice. The use of reclaimed materials and a local assembly process make it an eco-friendly option. And when the time comes, the lamp is designed to be easily dismantled, ensuring its durability extends beyond its life as a lamp.

Rust-resistant and finished with a sandblasted, durable, soft matte, the WA Table Lamp is a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics. Inspired by the city of Tokyo, this lamp is a reminder of the beauty that can be found in reclaimed materials and the enduring charm of urban life.
