Ninth and Tenth Region Tennis Players Qualify for State Tournaments

The 9th and 10th Regions of Kentucky high school tennis have seen some exciting action, with several players securing their spots in the state tournaments.

In the boys singles category, Alex Yeager from CovCath, Shayaan Ahmad from Villa Madonna, Neel Reddy from Ryle, and Naveeth Selveraju from Ryle will represent the 9th Region. Chris Wells and Cameron Wells from Campbell County will represent the 10th Region in the boys doubles tournament.

The 9th Region final saw Covington Catholic defeat Beechwood, 3-0, earning them a return trip to the season finale. Kalei Christensen and Blake Hussey, Will Tribble and Jacob Kramer from CovCath, Griffen Derry and Collin McClure from Dixie Heights, and Louis Schlosser and Isaac Macke from Beechwood will compete in the boys doubles state tournament.

The girls singles competition saw Kayla Johnson from Cooper emerge victorious in the 9th Region final against Sadie Jones from Beechwood with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Johnson will be joined by Kayla Johnson, Julia Lyons from Villa Madonna, Eva Greene from NewCath, and Sadie Jones in the 9th Region girls singles state tournament.

The 9th Region girls doubles final was won by Avery Love and Niveditha Salvaraju from Ryle, who defeated Cassidy Derry and Isabella Norvell from Dixie Heights with scores of 6-2, 6-1. They will be joined by Avery Love and Niveditha Salvaraju, Cassidy Derry and Isabella Norvell, Maggie Kute and Lyndsey Payne from St. Henry, and Isabella Mcelwee and Malia Christensen from Notre Dame in the 9th Region girls doubles state tournament.

All the region finalists in both girls singles and doubles will advance to the state tournament at the University of Kentucky on May 27-29.
