Nigerian Politician Jibrin Backs Tinubu, Dismisses Blame for Northern Insecurity

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) and a long-time ally of President Bola Tinubu, appeared on Channels Television's Politics Today on Wednesday to express his support for the President's bid for a second term in 2027.

During the interview, Jibrin dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu should be held responsible for the rising insecurity in northern Nigeria. He stated that it is a "dangerous calculation" for anyone to assume that the President has no political base in the North.

Jibrin also stressed that it would be false to blame Tinubu for the insecurity in the North and Nigeria's security problem as a whole. He did not provide any evidence to support this claim, nor did he mention any specific factor that would prevent Tinubu from winning in 2027.

Jibrin did not discuss the political support for any other presidential candidates during the interview. However, he did highlight that the President's most important supporters in northern Nigeria, who appear less in official media, include influential local politicians, traditional leaders, and behind-the-scenes political operatives who wield significant regional influence but maintain a low public profile.

Despite not mentioning any other political figures who support Tinubu, Jibrin emphasised that he has people in the North. He also expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a second term in 2027, stating, "I cannot see anything that will stop him from winning the elections in 2027."

Jibrin also made it clear that his relationship with President Tinubu is positive, irrespective of party affiliation. He stated, "It has been a great relationship."

It is worth noting that some northerners want President Tinubu out of power, but similar opposition exists in other regions. Regarding the security situation in Nigeria, Jibrin did not discuss this topic during the interview.

In conclusion, Jibrin's appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today served as a public affirmation of his support for President Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027 and his rejection of claims that the President lacks political support in the North.
