Get ready, music lovers, as Montreal prepares to welcome a new season of classical music performances. The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) kicks off the season on September 17, followed by the Orchestre Métropolitain starting on September 23.

One of the highlights of the OSM's season opener is Berlioz's La damnation de Faust, conducted by Rafael Payare. The seasoned maestro will also lead Mahler's Ninth Symphony as part of the OSM's complete Mahler cycle on October 15 and 16.

On a different note, the Bourgie Hall will host Leif Ove Andsnes, a champion of the romantic repertoire, on October 2. Andsnes will perform masterpieces by Grieg, Schumann, and Chopin, promising an evening of enchanting melodies.

The Montreal Opera is also gearing up for an exciting season, with the Czech opera Jenůfa by Janáček taking centre stage. Renowned Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan will direct this production, while Nicole Paiement conducts. Marie-Adeline Henry and Katarina Karnéus will perform the main roles, with Megan Latham as Stefania Buryja. Latham, known for her roles in operas by Janáček, Mozart, Puccini, and others, is set to deliver a captivating performance.

Another notable production at the Montreal Opera is La damnation de Faust, featuring the talents of Andrew Staples, Karen Cargill, and Willard White.

Classical music enthusiasts won't want to miss the performance of Mendelssohn's Elias on November 20 in Quebec and November 21 in Montreal. This production, directed by Montreal-based conductor and composer Samy Moussa, promises to be a moving experience.

Before Thus Spoke Zarathustra at the Orchestre Métropolitain, audiences can enjoy an indigenous creation by Pied-Noir Sonny-Ray Day Rider.

Robert D. Levin, a renowned musicologist and pianist, will perform a Bach program with Les Violons du Roy on November 6 in Quebec and Salle Bourgie the next day.

Finally, Yannick Nézet-Séguin's great friend, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, is performing in the Orchestre Métropolitain's new season. The Lanaudière Festival noted Leif Ove Andsnes' prodigious skills in 1989, marking the beginning of a successful career that continues to this day.

With such a diverse and exciting lineup, Montreal's classical music scene is set to shine this fall. Don't miss out on these unforgettable performances!
