Ticket sales now restricted to one purchase per show performance
In a significant development for rail passenger transport in southern Baden-Württemberg, Transdev Vertrieb GmbH (TDV) has been awarded a ten-year contract to operate ticket machines and sales points at 123 locations from December 2025.
The tender region in Baden-Württemberg covers the southeastern part of the state, including cities like Reutlingen, Tübingen, Ravensburg, and Friedrichshafen. The affected municipalities, districts, and associations, as well as DB Vertrieb, will be closely involved in the commissioning and handover process.
Minister Winfried Hermann congratulated Transdev Vertrieb on the award and expressed his anticipation for the collaboration. He emphasized the importance of offering comprehensive good service to passengers and the new system's potential to make public transport easier, especially for occasional users.
Under the new arrangement, Transdev Vertrieb will manage around 190 ticket vending machines (bwegt machines), 14 high-quality and comprehensive sales points (bwegt passenger centers), 6 sales points with personal video consultation (bwegt video travel centers), and approximately 7 to 13 simple sales points (bwegt agencies).
The "bwegt Passenger Centers" will replace the existing DB travel centers in the region. These centers will offer sales, advice, and in some cases comfortable waiting facilities in a new design. Passengers can purchase long-distance train tickets from DB in the "bwegt Passenger Centers" and "bwegt Video Travel Centers."
The "bwegt agencies" will offer a reduced range of tickets. The operation of ticket machines and sales points in Baden-Württemberg has been an ancillary duty of the railway companies until now.
Transdev Vertrieb is one of the major players in Germany for automated and staffed sales in rail transport. They are already active in Bavaria, Hesse, and Lower Saxony. The centralization of sales services with a single provider offers clearer specifications, direct control, and a unified, high-quality sales process.
Minister Hermann emphasized that the new system will make public transport easier, especially for occasional users. The contract for the operation of ticket machines and sales points in southern Baden-Württemberg runs until the end of 2035. The won provider for centralized sales services for local public transport in South Baden-Württemberg starting December 2025 is not explicitly mentioned in the available search results. However, it is certain that Transdev Vertrieb GmbH will play a crucial role in shaping the future of rail passenger transport in the region.
