Thwarting Deceptive Tax Practices Leads to Triumph
The Ministry of Finance in Baden-Württemberg has announced impressive achievements in the tax administration sector. Last year, a total of 96 billion euros were collected in taxes, with income tax making up the largest share.
The Special Unit for Tax Oversight (SUTO) contributed significantly to these figures, achieving a record result of 38.8 million euros. This success was also reflected in the automated processing rate, which increased to almost 16 percent.
A total of 4.7 million income tax returns were processed, a new record, and the processing times for these returns have decreased to an average of 50 days, down from 63 days in 2023.
Chief Finance President Bernd Kraft praised the employees of the tax offices for their outstanding job and significant case clearance. Finance Secretary Gisela Splett emphasized the tax administration as a well-functioning part of the public administration.
On August 29, 2025, both Splett and Kraft presented the 2024 tax administration report. The report, which is available for download as a PDF, also highlights the establishment of a new interdepartmental unit to combat money laundering and tax evasion in Baden-Württemberg in 2025. This unit is led by Dr. Markus Keller.
In addition to the tax collection, the Ministry of Finance also reported an additional revenue of 366 million euros from tax investigations.
