Thunder's newcomer, Thomas Sorber, to sit out the 2025-26 season due to a torn ACL injury.
Thunder's 2025 Draft Pick Thomas Sorber to Miss Entire 2025-26 Season Due to ACL Injury
The Oklahoma City Thunder have suffered another setback as their 15th overall pick in the 2025 draft, Thomas Sorber, will miss the entire 2025-26 season due to an ACL injury in his right knee.
Sorber, who declared for the draft after his freshman season with Georgetown, became the first Georgetown freshman to be drafted into the NBA. His lone season with the Hoyas was cut short due to a turf toe injury, which required surgery on Feb. 15, causing him to miss the NBA Summer League play with Oklahoma City.
During his time with Georgetown, Sorber averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.0 blocks, and 31.3 minutes per contest. He ranked second among freshmen in the nation in rebounding and finished 11th in total rebounds (203) in the Big East. Sorber also ranked second on the Hoyas in scoring, finishing 18th in made free throws (76) and 12th in defensive boards (139) in the Big East. He finished ninth in offensive rebounds (64) and seventh in blocks (49) in the conference.
Sorber's impressive freshman season earned him a spot on the third team All-Big East and a unanimous selection to the Big East All-Freshman team.
The Thunder have had their fair share of injuries to their recent lottery picks. Chet Holmgren, the second overall pick in the 2022 draft by the Thunder, missed his entire first season due to a Lisfranc injury in his right foot. Nikola Topic, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 draft by the Thunder, missed all of last season due to a partially torn ACL in his left knee.
The Thunder open the 2025-26 season at home against the Houston Rockets on Oct. 21. Unfortunately, they will have to do so without the services of their promising young player, Thomas Sorber.

Despite the setbacks, the Thunder will be hoping for a successful season ahead and a speedy recovery for their injured players.
