Three Potential Las Vegas Locations Compete to Accommodate Shifted Neon Museum Installation

The Neon Museum, a popular attraction that showcases Las Vegas' iconic casino signs, is on the move. After outgrowing its current location on Las Vegas Boulevard, the museum is considering three new sites for relocation.

Last year, the two top contenders for the museum's relocation were a newly constructed parking garage at the corner of Art Way and Boulder Avenue, and an undisclosed location with 35,000 square feet of programmable space. However, plans to move the museum to the parking garage have been scrapped.

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley revealed these sites earlier this week. Among the new contenders is the Downtown Events Center, owned by casino mogul Derek Stevens. The Plaza Hotel & Casino, owned by the Tamares Group and managed by CEO Jonathan Jossel, is another site being considered. An undisclosed property owned by Boyd Gaming, which operates several casinos in downtown Las Vegas, is also among the sites.

The Neon Museum, which attracts 200,000 visitors a year, must turn away about 30,000 guests a year for being sold out. Currently, the museum can only display about 35% of its collection due to limited capacity, with about 275 signs out of 700 on display.

Mayor Berkley stated that the museum is expected to make a decision on which site to partner with shortly, but no specific timeline has been provided. The museum plans to raise $45 million for its relocation, primarily through government funding and philanthropic gifts.

The Neon Museum, founded in 1996, is a vital part of Las Vegas' history and culture. Its new location will not only provide more space for the museum's growing collection but also offer visitors a more immersive and enriching experience.
