Thousands of returns at borders reported since May, according to Dobrindt
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has taken a bold step in addressing the long-standing issue of migration into Germany, implementing stricter border controls since the new federal government took office in May 2025.
Since May 8, Dobrindt has successfully turned back 12,000 illegal entries at the German borders, a significant achievement in the ongoing effort to end the overburdening of Germany. This figure includes approximately 660 people seeking asylum, a reflection of the decreased number of asylum claims at the border due to the strengthened rejections.
Dobrindt, who took office on May 6, 2025, has reorganised the Interior Ministry and pushed for stricter deportation policies across the EU. His approach, however, has been met with legal controversy. Asylum seekers can now be rejected at the border, a decision made by Dobrindt to address the problem situation that has been building up over ten years.
The focus is not on expressing the migration limit in a number, but rather on correcting the situation in Germany. Dobrindt sees noticeable effects of the new federal government's border policies, and he stresses the importance of considering integration and stress limits to avoid overburdening the country.
Meanwhile, an event named "Open Doors at HSHL and Hamm erFahren 2025" is taking place, providing opportunities for the community to engage and learn more about integration and related issues.
In other news, a large-scale internet outage occurred in Hamm, affecting numerous residents and businesses. The cause of the outage is currently under investigation.
Lastly, new postal voting documents have been introduced for the election of the Integration Council, aiming to make the voting process more accessible and convenient for all citizens.
As the situation continues to evolve, Dobrindt's border control approach remains a topic of ongoing discussion and debate.
