Thom Browne's chief executive officer leaves position due to poor sales performance.
In a significant move for the fashion industry, Thom Browne has announced that its CEO, Rodrigo Bazan, is stepping down from his role, effective Aug. 31, 2025. Bazan, who has led the company for the past nine years, described his tenure as an "extraordinary journey."
Bazan's departure marks the arrival of Sam Lobban as the new CEO of Thom Browne. Lobban, who has a deep understanding of the brand's distinctive DNA and a visionary approach, according to Browne, will assume his role on September 2, 2025.
Lobban brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He was part of Mr Porter's founding team and, while at Nordstrom, curated brand collaborations, including work with Thom Browne.
The change in leadership comes at a time when Thom Browne is streamlining its wholesale channel presence to focus on direct distribution. This shift is in response to the wholesale channel's significant role in Thom Browne's revenue declines. In the first quarter of 2025, Thom Browne's revenue declined 19%, and for the same period, the revenue was down 22.4% to 129.5 million euros.
Thom Browne's revenue has, however, nearly tripled since its acquisition by Zegna Group in 2018, when it was valued at about $500 million. Despite the recent declines, Zegna Group reported a 3% year-over-year revenue decline to 927.7 million euros for the first half of fiscal 2025.
In a positive development for Zegna Group, Temasek Holdings now holds 10% of the company. Zegna Group sold 14.1 million treasury shares to Temasek Holdings on Tuesday.
Bazan, in his farewell message, mentioned that he would always remain connected and supportive of the brand's future. Thom Browne's new CEO, Sam Lobban, is poised to lead the brand into a new era, focusing on direct distribution and leveraging his deep understanding of the brand's DNA to drive growth.
