In the early hours of Saturday morning, Thai military forces made a significant arrest in Sa Kaeo province. A group of 38 Cambodian individuals, consisting of 20 men, 17 women, and one girl, were apprehended in a sugarcane field in tambon Phan Suk, approximately two kilometers from the border.

The arrest was carried out by a Burapha Task Force unit in Aranyaprathet district at 7am. The Cambodian individuals were attempting to enter Thailand, with the intention of seeking employment to escape extreme economic hardship and insufficient income in their hometown.

Following the arrest, the authorities transferred the detainees to Ranger Company 1204 for further questioning. The Sa Kaeo Immigration office will handle the repatriation of the detainees.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal immigration in the region, with many individuals risking their lives to seek better opportunities in neighbouring countries. It serves as a reminder for both governments to address the root causes of economic hardship and to strengthen border controls to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The arrest took place in the morning in the Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province, a region known for its porous borders and high levels of illegal immigration activity. The exact location of the arrest was not disclosed for security reasons.

This incident is under investigation and more details are expected to be released in due course. The authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
