Criminals deceived an 84-year-old resident in Solingen-Merscheid on Thursday, August 22nd, under the pretext of her grandchild being involved in a fatal car accident, thereby successfully extorting money from her.

In a concerning incident, an 84-year-old woman was defrauded in Solingen-Merscheid on August 22nd. The scam involved a call from an imposter claiming to be a police officer.

The imposter demanded a large sum of money and later jewelry from the victim. A man, approximately 30 years old, with short dark hair and an average build, received a bag of jewelry from the victim. It is essential to note that the real police never ask for bank account balance, bank/credit card data, passwords, or PINs.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a police officer and they ask for such sensitive information, hang up immediately. The police have also warned the public not to let strangers into their homes under any circumstances.

The police are urging relatives and close persons to talk to elderly people about various methods of fraudsters. They advise that real family members identify themselves by name, whereas scammers will let you guess who is calling.
