"Give your support in prayer" - The wife of a former Bundesliga player has been diagnosed with cancer.

The soccer player Eduard Löwen's wife, Ilona, has been diagnosed with cancer. He shared this unfortunate news at a news conference for his current team, St. Louis City in the U.S.

Löwen: "My wife is going through some serious health issues. It's gotten worse and she had to have an operation. Turns out she has cancer."

The devout Christian, Löwen, didn't specify the type of cancer. Instead, he called upon "his followers of Christ all over the world to pray for his wife's wellbeing."

Eduard Löwen last played for Bochum in the Bundesliga. His move to the USA followed in 2022

Eduard and Ilona Löwen have been a loving couple for many years and officially got married in July 2019.

Löwen's previous team, 1. FC Nürnberg (2016 to 2019), expressed their support after hearing the shocking diagnosis, writing on Twitter: "A great athlete, an impressive person. Our thoughts are with your wife, your family, and you, Edu."
