Nowadays, FC St. Pauli has progressed and is competing in a level higher than its archrivals from Hamburg for the first time in professional soccer. On the other hand, the supposedly minor neighbor, Holstein Kiel, performed significantly better in terms of sportsmanship, and from next season, they'll take the spot that HSV has been aiming to get back to for years.

This situation may seem quite distressing for a club like HSV. Or is it not that awful?

After their 1-0 defeat against Paderborn, captain Sebastian Schonlau was astonished (and delighted) by the positive feedback from their fans: "As a player, you're standing there and asking yourself if you truly deserve this moment."

HSV isn't discussing a power shift in Hamburg, as they are still the more prominent club with more members, more spectators, and more companies behind them than FC St. Pauli. Eventually, the club will regain its position as the foremost team.

However, the query arises: Has the club settled into their comfort zone too much?

The financial data seems accurate, the fans didn't let their sixth non-promotion spoil their excitement - possibly, this conceals the reality that the table is what matters at the end of a season. Instead of the account balance or the average attendance.

Certainly, maintaining a steady and composed approach rather than a chaotic and loud approach is the appropriate way to go, as demonstrated by St. Pauli and Kiel.

But HSV must take precautions not to get overly tranquil with their basic contentment and miss out on critical percentages. Otherwise, they'll also face challenges with promotion in the forthcoming season.
