The number of potential candidates decreases. - The progress in the club's hunt for a new sports manager

After Dieter Hecking's (59) dismissal, 1. FC Nürnberg is still searching for a new sporting director. Negotiations are expected to occur this week, but the whole supervisory board needs to give their approval, so it seems unlikely that this personnel matter will be resolved this week.

While Schmedes is a well-regarded figure in the industry, he's not at the top of FCN's list. Firstly, he turned down FCN four years ago during Hecking's tenure. Secondly, his reputation has taken a hit lately due to two relegations with Osnabrück and now Vitesse Arnhem. However, the second relegation is mainly due to a points deduction.

Nils Ole Book (38), Elversberg's sports director and former professional, is also rumored to be on the club's list. Book helped the Saarland club ascend from the regional league to the 2nd division. But he's not among the frontrunners either.

The clock is ticking. The crucial planning stages for the upcoming season have already begun, so time is of the essence.
