The Heimat-Preis of Detmold: Recognising Community Engagement
The Heimat-Preis, an award that honours voluntary work contributing to a solidarity-based society, preservation of traditions, a livable city, or future-oriented developments, will be presented in Detmold for the sixth consecutive year. Launched by the Ministry of Home, Municipalities, Building, and Equal Opportunities of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2019, the Heimat-Preis has become an established way to highlight voluntary work in the city.
The award, which can grant up to 5,000 euros to recognised projects, is open to applications and suggestions from June 1st to August 15th, 2025. Projects, actions, or contributions that enhance community spirit, preserve cultural heritage, promote diversity, enhance public spaces, or pursue innovative approaches in areas such as digitalization and sustainable mobility are all eligible. Not only direct applications are possible - third-party suggestions highlighting outstanding engagement are also explicitly welcome.
The jury evaluating the applications and proposals consists of a panel from politics and administration. They review the submissions and make recommendations, which are then presented to the local council for final approval. The award recognises civic engagement that strengthens the local community with passion and creativity.
The Heimat-Preis aims to support future-oriented developments and the preservation of traditions in the local community. Previous winners have included projects that foster social cohesion, sustainable thinking and action, and regular breakfast offerings for lonely individuals.
Applications can be submitted by post to the volunteer office of the city portal, Nora Moos and Kathrin Prill, or by email to ehrenamt@our website. The postal address for submissions is Room 104, Town Hall, Market Square 5, 32756 Detmold. For further information, please call 05231 977 8458.
The award will be presented by the council of the city portal. The Heimat-Preis continues to be a significant recognition of the hard work and dedication of those who contribute to making Detmold a vibrant and inclusive community.
