The Investigation has additionally considered data offered by the Member States during the probe.
In the heart of Hamburg, Germany, a catering company named Forrest Cook has been serving around 3,000 children in dozens of daycare centers for approximately eight years. However, recent investigations have raised concerns about the company's legitimacy and financial practices.
Forrest Cook operates under the umbrella of the daycare provider Waldforscher gGmbH, but the economically driving company behind it remains a mystery. Search results do not provide information about the company that generates millions in revenue each year, hiding behind the facade of a small nature daycare provider.
The case of the large kitchen rental in Hamburg, where Anatol Weidemann is accused of not fully transferring the rent and looting the kitchen's equipment, has been pending in court for years. Weidemann, who appears under several names, is at the center of the company network of Forrest Cook but is not listed in any official position in the company register.
Meanwhile, private equity firms and investment companies are increasingly active in areas such as infrastructure, including education and health, transport, and public facilities, in Germany. The state of Germany is estimated to need 600 billion euros for infrastructure projects, and the federal government's 500-billion-euro package for infrastructure projects is stirring interest among private investors.
Daycare centers are often non-profit GmbHs, and their parent companies do not have to pay taxes. Catering companies, on the other hand, are not inherently tax-exempt. The Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the responsible parties for potential tax evasion.
Bernd Lommel, the faction business manager of the AfD Saxony, was a shareholder of a project management and asset management company named Goldstein GmbH, registered at the same Eimsbüttel address as the Kita-gGmbH Waldforscher. Lommel was previously involved in the investment scandal surrounding the real estate company Dolphin Trust and was registered as a managing director in more than a dozen different companies at one time.
The Eimsbüttel district administration does not see itself as responsible for checking whether a business, which cooks 3,000 meals for small children daily, is legitimately registered as a trade. This lack of oversight could potentially allow businesses to deceive authorities and channel millions in annual revenue past the tax office.
The competition for children has begun in the area of kindergartens, as the prospect of good money attracts more and more new providers. The price pressure is high for small daycare catering companies, and there is a risk that only a few large corporations will remain in the market.
In a surprising turn of events, a mysterious foundation is registered in Liechtenstein, around the same time as the Kita-gGmbH in Hamburg. Weidemann is listed as a member of the foundation council, and the foundation's purpose is identical to the company's purpose of the Waldforscher gGmbH. Weidemann claims that the operation is a "social sculpture" that "requires no explanation or justification."
As the investigations continue, the public is left to ponder the implications of these findings and the potential impact on the daycare industry in Germany.
