The HFC is not solely focussed on Mannheim.

Following the avoidable 0-1 loss against Unterhaching previously, HFC now require a minor soccer miracle in their efforts to avoid relegation. However, the situation is not entirely dire.

Final slide rule application - The HFC is not solely focussed on Mannheim.

Halle FC pulls out the calculator!

Right now, they're only two points behind Waldhof Mannheim (40 points). This coming Saturday, they face Sandhausen at home, and then they'll travel to Aue. Catching up with Mannheim may seem like the easiest route - but there's another option.

On Friday evening, 1860 Munich faces Rot-Weiß Essen. If they lose that game, HFC (38 points) can save themselves with two victories in East Westphalia against Bielefeld (42 points) and at home against Borussia Dortmund's second team.

The math is straightforward: If Munich loses on Friday, HFC will be safe with wins in Bielefeld on Saturday (2 p.m.) and at home against Borussia Dortmund II.

Landgraf: "We need to score the goal!"

Either way, Halle must push for a win on Saturday to get over the disappointment of the Haching game.

Defender Niklas Landgraf: "We'll have our next chance on Saturday, but then we have to score. Things can change quickly in soccer, and we need to pick ourselves up just as fast."
