Dislike for lavishness - The Greens aim to prohibit personal use of jets and yachts.
Lanz gathered the leaders of the junior organizations from the CDU, SPD, FDP, and the Greens for a discussion. Appuhn, a Green Party member, was eager to discuss the topic of extravagance.
She straight away advocated for a ban on superyachts and private jets, claiming these items caused social injustice.
Appuhn deemed such items a waste of society's resources, "A nontrivial part of our resources is being spent on nonsense." Given the impending demographic changes, workers would be more beneficial elsewhere than constructing private jets.
She labeled private jets and superyachts - some of which cost several billion euros - as "insane luxury consumption."
Appuhn proposed two options - either prohibit the construction and sale of superyachts and private jets in Germany, or tax enormous fortunes to such an extent that individuals wouldn't have enough money to purchase an additional private jet.
Lanz questioned the problem with constructing airplanes, prompting Appuhn to inquire, "What kind of world are we living in? In some places, buses come twice a day, while others have a private jet?"
Another participant, Juso chairman Philipp Türmer (28), also shared his stance on luxury. Türmer demanded a total restructuring of the 226 German billionaires into 226 millionaires. Türmer believed there were certain wealth levels that served no social purpose.
Appuhn agreed with Türmer's perspective, adding there were numerous "social construction sites" where the money could be more usefully spent.
