Brothers Grimm Festival in Hanau Secures Permanent Institutional Funding

The Brothers Grimm Festival in Hanau, Germany, has secured permanent institutional funding from the federal government, marking a significant milestone for the renowned cultural event. This announcement was made by Mayor Claus Kaminsky, who also revealed that the festival sold a record 92,413 tickets this year.

Mayor Kaminsky emphasised the importance of this long-term funding, stating that it underscores the festival's standing in the German festival league. The institutional federal funding is seen as recognition of the national relevance and uniqueness of the Brothers Grimm Festival.

The festival director, Frank-Lorenz Engel, expressed his great joy and deep gratitude for the new funding. Engel believes this will provide a stable foundation for the festival's future, allowing it to continue its mission of presenting premieres every year and upholding a cultural heritage of world renown and innovation.

The decision to grant the Brothers Grimm Festival permanent institutional funding was the result of the efforts of Hanau's federal MP, Pascal Reddig, and the Minister of Culture, Wolfram Weimer. Weimer, who participated in supporting the festival, is also the Federal Minister for Culture.

Mayor Kaminsky has invited Federal President Julia Klöckner and Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer to the first premiere of the 42nd season, which will begin on May 8. The festival's success this season is already evident, having convinced over 92,000 spectators.

In addition to the institutional funding, the federal government has allocated 500,000 euros for the acquisition of a reusable and sustainable stage system for the Brothers Grimm Festival, as part of the "KulturInvest" program. This investment is expected to further enhance the festival's environmental credentials.

Mayor Kaminsky has suggested a potential increase in the annual subsidy for the Brothers Grimm Festival from the state of Hesse to match the institutional federal funding. He believes this would ensure the festival's continued success and growth.
