The city of Bottrop is gearing up for its annual cultural highlight, the Figurentheatertage, which kicks off on Wednesday, September 17. This year's edition, under the artistic direction of Kerstin Mallwitz for the first time, promises a diverse and captivating programme that will run until September 27.

The Figurentheatertage are supported by the Egon Bremer Foundation and the United Volksbank, both institutions that emphasise the importance of cultural promotion, especially for children and youth.

On the opening day, "Das Großmaul" will take centre stage. This walk-act figure, Dr. Dr. Mund, will share philosophical tales and encounters with famous personalities from 10 am to 1 pm in the city centre.

Ensembles from across Germany will participate in the Figurentheatertage, bringing a variety of performances to Bottrop. On Wednesday, September 24, the Cipolla stage from Bremen will present "Dr. Fischer from Geneva or the Bomb Party", a theatre play based on a novel by Graham Greene.

For families with young children, there are 13 performances designed for schools and kindergartens, featuring stories of Findus and Petersson, the little polar bear, and Puss in Boots. These performances will be held at the Old Exchange of the United People's Bank, one of the venues for the Figurentheatertage.

For adults, there are four evenings of black humour and poetic performances. On Thursday, September 18, the Merlin Puppet Theatre will present "Clowns' Houses" at the Chamber Concert Hall, a performance with characters leading miserable lives in a claustrophobic and dark environment, without any text.

On Saturday, September 20, "Die Dicke" will pull her trolley through the city centre during the weekly market, while on Sunday, September 21, Julia Raab and Simon van Parys from Halle will present a cross-genre theatre performance of Selma Lagerlöf's children's book "Nils Holgersson's Wonderful Journey" at the Chamber Concert Hall.

Kerstin Mallwitz, the organiser, considers the performance on September 21 a highlight for the whole family. Dieter Wollek from the Egon Bremer Foundation states that they support what makes the city livable and lovable, with culture being a key focus.

Tickets for the Figurentheatertage can be purchased at the theater box office in the Cultural Center, Böckenhoffstraße 12a. The full programme for the Figurentheatertage can be found on the internet at www.bottrop.de.

The Figurentheatertage are recurring highlights in the city's cultural program, and this year's edition promises to be as exciting as ever. Don't miss out on this unique cultural experience!
