The European edition of The Ocean Race is now targeting Cartagena as its destination
In the heart of the Bay of Biscay, the tactical battle between the IMOCA boats in The Ocean Race Europe 2025 was decisive. Each tack proved crucial in this high-stakes race, with the fleet remaining tightly-knit due to the scant wind conditions.
The passage through the Bay of Biscay kept the competitors within a few miles of each other, setting the stage for a nail-biting race. After a brief three-hour rest, the fleet resumed its journey towards Cartagena.
Biotherm, skippered by Paul Meilhat, continued to dominate the race, amassing a perfect score of 18 points out of 18 possible. Their key move came at Cape Finisterre, where they caught the west breeze and took the lead. This strategic decision has kept Biotherm at the top of the general classification, making them the team to beat in the Ocean Race Europe 2025.
Team Malizia, currently in fourth place, expressed regret over Biotherm's advantage at the finish line in Matosinhos. However, Paprec ArkeΜa, skippered by Yoan Richomme, put on a spectacular comeback, finishing second, 42 minutes behind the leader. This impressive performance marked Holcim-PRB's first points in the race, securing third place.
The entire fleet is now heading towards the finish line in Cartagena, expected on Saturday, August 23. The Strait of Gibraltar and the final sprint in the Mediterranean remain challenges for the competitors. The race remains tight, with small margins separating the competitors in this thrilling tour of Europe.
