The deadline for transfer transactions in the Premier League and EFL occurs tonight.
In a move aimed at providing a more normal working pattern for football staff across Europe, the transfer windows for La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and Serie A will conclude simultaneously with the Premier League and EFL this summer.
The decision, which follows discussions between the top five European leagues, marks a departure from the traditional order where Germany would close its window first, followed by Italy, France, then England, and finally Spain.
The change was introduced this summer to allow for a smoother and more coordinated transfer period, mirroring the Premier League and EFL's new schedule.
The shift in timing came after clubs had to pause their spending in June due to an exceptional registration period for the expanded 2025 Club World Cup. During this period, from June 10 to June 16, Premier League and EFL clubs were not allowed to sign players.
The 2025 summer transfer window, which opened on Sunday, June 1, two weeks earlier than its 2024 date, reopened on June 16, four hours earlier than the previous 11pm deadline. Clubs usually have a two-hour grace period after the window shuts to finalise deals, only if paperwork is submitted to the FA by 7pm.
The 2025 Club World Cup registration period also allowed teams to sign players in time for the tournament. Chelsea and Manchester City were English sides that participated in the revamped competition.
Meanwhile, Alexander Isak, currently under contract with FC Liverpool, made a move from Newcastle United in the summer of 2025, but there is no mention of a club that currently rents him out or might sign a new contract with him at the end of the transfer window.
Elsewhere, the Saudi Pro League's transfer window will close on Wednesday, September 10.
The coordinated closure of transfer windows is expected to streamline the transfer process, providing a more consistent and predictable environment for clubs and players alike.
