The Commission has been active in compiling a report detailing the current conditions within the Community.
The city of Gießen, one of the 14 model cities in Hesse, has taken a significant step forward in combating sexual violence with the launch of the "Medical Immediate Help After Sexual Assault" project. This initiative, supported by the Hessian Ministry of Labor, Integration, Youth & Social Affairs, aims to provide much-needed support for victims of sexual assault.
The project is an extension of the Medical Immediate Help After Sexual Assault project in Gießen and is part of the Frankfurt Women's Emergency Call e.V. project. The Women's and Equality Offices of the City of Gießen, University Clinics of Gießen and Marburg, and the Forensic Institute at the Institute of Legal Medicine are responsible for the medical care and evidence collection following acts of sexual violence.
In a collaborative effort, the intervention center against domestic violence of SKF e.V., Pro Familia Gießen e.V., Gießen Help e.V., and Wildwasser are project partners, providing psychological and social support for victims. The pharmacy at Ludwigsplatz is also cooperating, offering necessary medication for victims as needed.
Anonymous evidence collection is a key aspect of this project, allowing victims of sexual violence to take some distance before potentially filing a report, with the support of a trusted person. This approach provides victims with the opportunity to seek help without the immediate pressure of filing a report, which can be a significant burden for many.
The awareness campaign is part of the program for the International Day Against Violence, which will be marked in November. During this time, campaigns will be launched to emphasize that sexual violence is never the victim's fault. Clothing, appearance, or behavior are not factors that determine responsibility for sexual violence. The responsibility always lies with the perpetrator.
In a city bus initiative starting in September, the City of Gießen is implementing the project, aiming to reach a wider audience and increase awareness about the available resources for victims of sexual violence.
The project underscores the city's commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for all its residents. It serves as a reminder that help is available, and victims of sexual violence are not alone in their struggle.
