The city bus company commemorates its two decades of service

Celebration Marks 20 Years of Willich Citizens' Buses

In the heart of Willich, a special celebration was held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Citizens' Buses, a vital part of the city's public transportation. The event, held in the church garden, was graced by the presence of Mayor Christian Pakusch, state parliamentarian Guido Goertz, and the First and Technical Deputy Mayor Gregor Nachtwey, representing politics and administration.

Tafil Pufja, the CEO of the main sponsor, the Stadtwerke Willich, was also in attendance, demonstrating the community's support for this essential service.

The celebration began with speeches from Chairman Werner Kruse, the politicians, and two female students from the Benedictine Gymnasium, who spoke eloquently about the importance of the Citizens' Buses for mobility. The prior, P. Klaus-Ludger Söbbeler OSB, also delivered a speech, adding a spiritual touch to the proceedings.

The live entertainment for the evening was provided by the band "The Triples," known for their performances at the Willich after-work market. However, the United Men's Choir 1820 Willich, while not performing for this specific event, had previously participated in the bus inauguration in 2007 and the 10-year anniversary celebration.

The guests enjoyed the celebration following the politicians' speeches, with approximately 120 volunteers from Anrath, Schiefbahn, and Willich, who work as drivers for the Citizens' Buses, being honoured for their service to the city's citizens. The politicians took this opportunity to express their gratitude towards these dedicated individuals.

As the evening wore on, the celebration came to a close, marking a successful end to a day of recognition and appreciation for the Willich Citizens' Buses, a service that has been in operation for two decades and continues to play a crucial role in the city's transportation network. The Citizens' Bus Association had invited drivers, their partners, sponsors, and presidents of friendly Citizens' Bus Associations from Anrath, St. Tönis, and Schiefbahn to join in the festivities.

Despite not being directly involved in the entertainment or conclusion of the event, Mayor Christian Pakusch, state parliamentarian Guido Goertz, and the First and Technical Deputy Mayor Gregor Nachtwey, along with Tafil Pufja, the CEO of the main sponsor, were proud to be a part of this significant milestone in Willich's history.
