FC Merowinger's Traditional Trip to Mallorca Cancelled Due to Werner Dive's Passing
In a sad turn of events, the FC Merowinger, a renowned Cologne carnival group, will not be making their annual trip to Mallorca this year. The honourary president of the FC Merowinger, Werner Dive, passed away, leading to the temporary end of the party activities.
Since 1972, the FC Merowinger's trip to Mallorca has been a continuous tradition, a significant aspect of their calendar. Werner Dive was instrumental in organising these trips from the beginning until the end, driving partly high-aged pensioners to the Playa de Palma to maintain Cologne traditions in the form of beach parties, pool parties, and carnival parties.
Sascha Adams, the current president of the FC Merowinger, took to Facebook to announce the cancellation of the FC Merowinger's festival on Mallorca this year. He thanked people for their understanding regarding the cancellation and encouraged them to have a nice time on Mallorca despite the absence of the FC Merowinger's event.
The Cologne Week at the Ballermann, the oldest tradition that the Ballermann has ever offered, has also been cancelled for this year. Willi Krömer, former president of the Merowinger, will not be travelling to Mallorca this year either.
The club members react to the cancellation of the 54th trip to the Ballermann with shock. It is expected that the FC Merowinger will never again celebrate on the island as they have in the last 53 years. One club member lamented, "Werner would turn in his grave."
