"The 2026 Tour of the 'Romeo and Juliet' Musical"
The musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, "Romeo & Juliet - Love is Everything," is set to embark on a tour across several European cities starting from August 2026. The tour will kick off in Cologne, with planned performances in various German cities, Austria (Vienna), and Switzerland (Zürich).
This unique production, created by Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, promises to tell the world's most famous love story in a fresh and innovative way. The musical, currently playing at the Theater des Westens in Berlin until the end of February 2026, has already captivated over 400,000 audience members since its premiere in March 2023.
The creators have reimagined Shakespeare's characters, making Juliet wilder and introducing an unexpected love interest for Mercutio. The musical's text is based on August Schlegel's German translation, and the music is a captivating blend of pop songs and arias, featuring hits like "Liebe ist alles" and "Wie weit ist vorbei" by the pop duo Rosenstolz, of which Plate was once a member.
Plate and Sommer, who have previously brought several musicals to the stage together, including "Ku'damm 56," an adaptation of the TV series, have once again proven their ability to create engaging and thought-provoking productions. The upcoming tour will travel to Düsseldorf (Capitol Theater), Munich, Zurich, Frankfurt, Duisburg, Baden-Baden, and Bremen, with additional dates still being planned. The tour also includes a guest performance in Vienna in early 2027.
