Thailand prepares for torrential rain, flash flooding, large waves, and coastal storm surges
Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Potential Tropical Storm Affecting Multiple Regions
A tropical depression in the central South China Sea is expected to intensify into a tropical storm, making landfall over Quang Binh district, Vietnam, this evening. This system, known as Kajiki, is forecasted to bring heavy rain, flooding, landslides, and potentially a tropical storm to several regions of Thailand.
In the South, both the west and east coasts are under weather advisories. The minimum temperatures in the South (west coast) range from 23-27°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 31-33°C. Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected in Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Along the east coast, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Surat Thani are bracing for similar conditions. Waves in both coasts of the southeast region are pushing to 2-3 metres, with areas of thundershowers experiencing waves exceeding 3 metres.
Residents are advised to be cautious of flooding and flash floods, particularly in lowlands and areas near foothills. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf should remain ashore due to the rough conditions.
In the Northeast, minimum temperatures range from 22-25°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 31-34°C. Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Bueng Kan, Nong Khai, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, and Loei are expected to experience fairly widespread thundershowers, gusty wind, and isolated heavy to very heavy rain.
The strong southwest monsoon will bring heavy rainfall to the eastern and western southern provinces, and the monsoon trough extends across the upper North and upper Northeast of Thailand. Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected in Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, and Phetchabun in the North of Thailand for the next 24 hours.
Isolated heavy rain is expected nationwide, with very heavy rain in the upper Northeast and Eastern regions. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
After August 30, 2025, northern and northeastern Thailand, as well as the southern coastal regions along both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, are expected to continue experiencing heavy rain, flooding, landslides, and possibly a tropical storm due to the influence of Kajiki and associated monsoon conditions.
The Thai Meteorological Department has reported a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. All ships are advised to exercise caution in these areas. Stay safe and weather aware!
