Textile prices ascended by 4.9% in November's market
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has released data showing a modest increase in prices within the textile and leather sectors for November. Compared to October, both sectors experienced an uptick, but the rise was lower than that registered in the previous month.
In the textile industry, prices increased by 4.9% compared to November of the previous year, marking the lowest rise since January of this year. The manufacture of clothing (except fur) saw a price increase of 0.4%, while the finishing of textiles experienced a more significant rise of 1.9%. The manufacture of knitted clothing had the highest increase among the sub-sectors, with prices rising by 2.3%. The manufacture of other textile products also saw a price increase of 3.1%.
The prices of textile fabric manufacturing increased by a substantial 5.8%. Meanwhile, the preparation and spinning of textile fibers had an interannual price increase of 11.3%.
The leather and footwear sector also saw an increase in industrial prices in November, with prices rising from 2.1% in October to 2.2%. The prices of the leather sector (preparation, tanning and finishing of leather; manufacture of leather goods, luggage and saddlery and harness; preparation and tanning of skins) increased by 4.5%. The manufacture of footwear had a price increase of 1.4%.
Interestingly, the textile sector's price increase in November was lower than the general result of the Industrial Price Index (IPI), which rose by 6.3% compared to November 2010. This indicates that while the textile and leather sectors experienced some price increases, the overall trend in industrial prices across all sectors was higher.
It's worth noting that the search results do not provide information about which textile industry companies experienced the highest price increase in textile fiber preparation in 2011 or their locations.
Despite the modest increase in prices, the textile and leather sectors continue to play a significant role in the economy. As we move forward, it will be interesting to see how these trends develop and how they might impact consumers and businesses within these sectors.
