In a significant development for the rail industry, Austrian measurement technology specialist PJM has completed initial tests on the Schmidt Beilhack HB 1100S snow blower in Norway. The tests, which took place on the scenic Flåm railway—one of the world's most beautiful railway lines—were carried out on behalf of infrastructure operator Bane NOR.

The 80-ton snow blower, manufactured by Aebi Schmidt, is intended for deployment in the Norwegian railway network in the future. The tests aimed to gather data for optimising performance, safety, and reliability of the snow blower.

PJM's expertise in measuring acoustic safety for occupational safety in rail vehicles was instrumental in these tests. The company's team, skilled in managing international rail vehicle projects, has experience with local standards and regulations as well as international project management.

Thomas Kaiser, project manager at Aebi Schmidt, stated that the tests provided necessary data for certification and valuable insights for the further development of the snow blower. Martin Joch, CEO of PJ Messtechnik GmbH, added that the tests for the certification of Aebi Schmidt's high-performance snow blower is another project of railway construction machines and special rail vehicles.

PJM's work encompasses a variety of rail vehicles and regions across Europe. In recent years, the company has tested a number of well-known special vehicles for certifications in many parts of Europe.

Further test runs are planned for autumn, with PJ Messtechnik set to conduct acoustic measurements for occupational safety on the high-performance snowplow Aebi Schmidt AS 1500 in autumn 2023. This continues PJM's commitment to ensuring safety and reliability in the rail industry.
