According to images from a mall showroom and a Reddit post, the Model Y Performance features a Launch Mode, similar to its siblings, the Model 3 Performance and the Model S Plaid, Model X Plaid. However, it remains unclear if the Model Y Performance shares the launch control system with its counterparts.

The new Model Y Performance's Launch Mode can be activated by pressing the brake firmly with the left foot while flooring the accelerator with the right. Once both inputs are registered, the display signals with a "Launch Mode enabled" message. The system is designed for optimal acceleration on closed circuits and surfaces with good traction.

The Model Y Performance, equipped with a pair of electric motors for all-wheel drive, boasts impressive acceleration figures. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds. When Launch Mode is activated, the vehicle accelerates rapidly, much like a scolded cat sprinting off the line.

Interestingly, the Model 3 Performance may also gain this feature through a future software update, but its current status is not specified. The Launch Mode update for the Model 3 Performance was released in 2023.
