Tesla Allegedly Swaps High-Voltage Battery Pack of a Cybertruck Owner, Citing "Engineering Research Initiative" While Claiming No Issues Beyond the Wireless Phone Charger Malfunctioning
In a recent move, Tesla has been proactively replacing high-voltage battery packs in Cybertrucks as part of an engineering study. Two Cybertruck owners, Ferrara from Pennsylvania and Mark from Alabama, have shared their experiences with the battery replacement process.
Ferrara, who did not have any prior battery-related issues with his Cybertruck, had his battery pack replaced by Tesla. During the replacement, a gallon of Ethylene Glycol coolant was also added. The replacement was due to a reported overheating problem in the Cybertruck's wireless phone charger, a problem that has been frequently reported by numerous other Cybertruck owners.
Mark, another Cybertruck owner, had a similar experience. His delivery was delayed for about two weeks due to the high-voltage battery issue. However, Tesla technicians verified that Mark's Cybertruck was not affected by the high-voltage battery issue during the delay. Mark's Cybertruck required a 'flex cable' related to the high-voltage battery to be replaced during a recent visit.
Tesla explained the battery pack replacement was necessary due to an "engineering research initiative." Ferrara, who shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, expressed confusion about the replacement and concern it might be related to damaged battery cells. However, he included a service report from Tesla in his forum post, stating that the replacement was due to an engineering research initiative.
Mark, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction with Tesla's proactive approach to making Cybertrucks as reliable and bulletproof as possible. Ferrara's Cybertruck's range did not show any discrepancies, and the vehicle was charging perfectly fine before the battery pack replacement. Mark's replaced battery pack was a Long Range (1783970-TX-J) model.
The name of the project where Tesla is proactively replacing the high-voltage batteries of Cybertrucks is not yet known. It's clear, however, that Tesla is taking steps to address any potential issues and ensure the reliability of its Cybertrucks.
As more Cybertruck owners share their experiences, it will be interesting to see how this engineering study unfolds and how it impacts the overall performance and reliability of the Cybertrucks.
