Temporary messaging feature launches within Gemini platform
In an exciting development, 9to5Google has published an exclusive article on their homepage about the latest update to the Gemini app. This update brings a significant image editing upgrade and the introduction of a new feature – Temporary Chat.
Google, the tech giant behind the Gemini app, has rolled out the Temporary Chat feature, providing users with a privacy-focused chat mode. This mode does not save conversations in chat history or use them for model training, ensuring a higher level of privacy for users.
To access this new feature, open the side panel on web or mobile and look for a new circular icon - a dashed message bubble - next to "New chat" underneath the search field. Once you're in a thread, "Ask in a temporary chat" will show up in the prompt bar and at the top of the screen.
The Temporary Chat feature is designed to help respond to users and keep Gemini safe. These chats are saved for 72 hours before they are automatically deleted. Unfortunately, features like using Gems, connected apps and services, personalized responses, saving information for future personalization, and giving feedback about the response are not available in a Temporary chat.
The update also includes some visual changes, such as new homescreen widget shapes and a new pill-shaped Gemini overlay on Android. Moreover, Google has added an emoji to the Tools menu in the Gemini app following the launch of Gemini 2.5 Flash Image.
The Temporary Chat feature is available on the web, in addition to Android and iOS devices. However, it's important to note that the Gemini app is currently not available for work or school accounts.
You can find this detailed article on the 9to5Google homepage, or stay updated through their Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube channel. This is a significant step forward for the Gemini app, and we're excited to see how users will embrace this new privacy-focused feature.
