Tech Giant Caljan Pumps Half a Million Euros into a State-of-the-art Technology Hub
In a significant move, Caljan, a global leader in telescopic conveyors and automation solutions for handling loose cargo, has opened a new Technology Centre in Liepaja, Latvia. The investment of approximately 550,000 euros marks a strong commitment to developing advanced manufacturing infrastructure in the region.
The Technology Centre, a collaborative learning environment, is in partnership with Riga Technical University's Liepaja branch and the Liepaja State Technical School. It serves as a practical training ground for students, offering them an opportunity to work with modern technologies and gain valuable hands-on experience.
The centre is equipped with live-streaming capabilities for remote sessions and is designed to allow customers to experience Caljan's solutions in real working conditions. Up to 30 customer groups are expected to visit the centre each year, with the first visitors including international parcel carriers, European postal operators, leading tyre manufacturers, and apparel wholesalers.
Caljan's Liepaja site is the company's largest production and engineering hub, employing 255 people. The facility not only manufactures conveyors but also develops advanced automation solutions, with the local team contributing to global product development and sales support.
Visitors to the centre can see and test Caljan's latest automation solutions for trailer loading and unloading, such as the AutoLoader and AutoUnloader. These demonstrations show how automation can reduce manual workload, improve workplace safety, and speed up parcel flow.
In addition to being a training space for employees and partners, the centre also functions as a service point for equipment upgrades that cannot be carried out at customer sites.
Gatis Dradeika, General Manager of Caljan Latvia, expressed his excitement about the new centre, stating, "The investment shows a strong commitment to developing advanced manufacturing infrastructure in Latvia."
Caljan's Liepaja site strengthens the company's global growth while creating new job opportunities in Latvia. The centre is one of three Caljan Technology Centres worldwide, with others located in Germany and the United States.
Caljan's customers have praised the centre, with many stating that being able to test Caljan solutions in practice helps them make better-informed investment decisions. The Caljan Latvian facility is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 standards, reflecting the company's commitment to quality, environmental management, and energy efficiency.
With the opening of the Technology Centre, Caljan is currently looking for additional project-based employees, primarily engineers and mechanical assemblers, to ensure the successful delivery of customer projects. The centre is poised to play a crucial role in Caljan's continued growth and success in the future.
