Tech giant Apple is experimenting with a revamped version of Siri, its digital assistant, by integrating it with popular apps such as Uber, YouTube, and others.
In a significant development for Apple's virtual assistant, Siri, the tech giant is testing an adapted version of the assistant with third-party apps, according to Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter.
The testing includes popular apps like Uber, YouTube, Temu, Amazon, and others, as well as apps like Amazon, Threads, Facebook, WhatsApp, and games. This expansion is part of Apple's efforts to make Siri more useful and integrated with everyday tasks.
With the new Siri, users will be able to control these apps fully via voice commands, enabling complex, multi-step tasks without touching the screen. For instance, users can tell Siri to find, edit, and send a specific photo, comment on an Instagram post, browse a shopping app, or add something to a cart.
Moreover, Siri will operate the apps as if it were the user, but more precisely. It will be able to access and utilize information from the Mail and Messages apps to answer questions about a user's mother's flight and lunch reservation plans.
At the WWDC24 developer conference, Apple announced that Siri would have a better understanding of a user's personal context. The new Siri features are intended to make the assistant more integrated with everyday tasks.
The market introduction for the new Siri is expected in March or April 2026. The new Siri is expected to be available with iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS 26.4, and VisionOS 26.4.
Apple Intelligence will support features available on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac for Siri. The testing of Siri with third-party apps is ongoing, aiming to improve the assistant's ability to interact with a wider range of apps and services.
This expansion of Siri's capabilities beyond Apple's own apps and services is a significant development for the assistant. It is expected to make Siri more useful in helping users manage their daily tasks more efficiently. Gurman estimates that the new Siri could launch in the U.S. in spring 2026.
