Tania Tetlow Takes the Helm at Fordham University

Tania Tetlow, the new President of Fordham University, aspires to transform the institution into a global beacon of equity. Born in New York City, Tetlow brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role.

Tetlow began her career as a lawyer, graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. Before joining Fordham, she served as the President of Connecticut College and the 17th President of Loyola New Orleans. Prior to her academic career, Tetlow worked as an associate at Phelps Dunbar and an assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Tetlow's parents, a clinical psychologist and a Biblical scholar, instilled in her a deep appreciation for individuality and awareness. This philosophy is evident in her approach to college applications, where she emphasizes the importance of students demonstrating a genuine desire to improve the world.

In her recent visit to Bronx Science, Tetlow commenced by telling students that there is not one right school for them, but to find where they think they'll be happiest. She encouraged them to be aware of the things that impair and differentiate us, without allowing them to hinder our accomplishments.

Throughout her career, Tetlow has advised government law clinics regarding domestic violence policy in various countries, including Egypt, Rwanda, and Iran. Her passion for social justice and advocacy extends beyond law and education, as she once expressed a desire to be a journalist.
