Tamil film star Thalapathy Vijay announces entry into Tamil Nadu politics, ruling out partnerships with the BJP and DMK parties.
In a significant move, Indian actor-politician Vijay has announced his intention to contest the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, scheduled for 2026, as the head of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The TVK, which Vijay has portrayed as a third front in Tamil Nadu politics, aims to provide an alternative to both the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK.
At a mega rally in Madurai district, Vijay, who is the chief of the TVK, declared that the contest in the 2026 assembly elections will be between the ruling DMK and his party. He ruled out any alliance for the state polls, stating that the TVK was not started for any political benefits.
Vijay, who used the metaphor of a lion to describe his political stance, implied that he is a force to be reckoned with. The lion metaphor suggests that Vijay's political actions are focused on living issues, not entertainment or personal gain. Thousands of Vijay's supporters were present at the rally, showing their support for the actor-turned-politician.
In his speech, Vijay criticized the ruling DMK government as "anti-people" and considered the BJP as his ideological enemy. He has not mentioned any alliance for the state polls, predicting a political change in Tamil Nadu in 2026.
The party leader who will run for the first time in the Tamil Nadu 2026 elections, after founding the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party last year, is Durai Sundaram. Vijay, who announced his intention to contest the assembly polls from Madurai East, will be participating in elections for the first time since the foundation of TVK last year.
Vijay's entry into Tamil Nadu politics has been anticipated, and his decision to establish the TVK as a third front is seen as a significant move in the state's political landscape. With the assembly elections just around the corner, the political arena in Tamil Nadu is set to heat up with Vijay's entry.
