Tales from the Ruhrpot region, documented on laminated sheets
Michael Wienand, a renowned museum designer from Dortmund-Hörde, is set to exhibit his works at the Hoesch Museum from September 7, 2025, to January 11, 2026. The exhibition, made possible by Michael Wienand and Maya Porat-Stolte, scientific volunteer of the Hoesch Museum, will showcase approximately 50 works created by the artist over the past ten years.
Wienand, who has been a museum designer for 30 years, is known for his unique style that uses the principle of multiples with layered paper levels. His works will be displayed in various sizes, offering visitors a diverse and immersive experience.
Inspired by the lack of representation of everyday life, particularly in the Ruhr region, Wienand began creating works that depict the typical Ruhrpott atmosphere. Unlike his previous works that focused on industrial culture, these pieces take a backseat, allowing the essence of the region to shine through.
The exhibition will open on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 11 am. Dr. Karl Lauschke, chairman of the Friends of the Hoesch Museum, will welcome the guests. Maya Porat-Stolte, scientific volunteer of the Hoesch Museum, will introduce the exhibition.
For those interested in the artworks, a detailed price list will be available at the museum cashier. Additionally, visitors can contact Maya Porat-Stolte or Michael Wienand directly for more information.
Wienand sees the creation of his works as a "wonderful occupation" that allows him to relax and create simultaneously. Before becoming a museum designer, he worked as a stage designer. He has designed 25 museums within a 150-kilometer radius, many of which lacked a representation of everyday life, particularly the Ruhr region.
The exhibition will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm, Thursdays from 9 to 5 pm, and Sundays from 10 to 5 pm. The artist will be present at some Sundays from 2 to 5 pm.
Editor's Note: Our project title works on a voluntary basis.
Wienand studied industrial design at the Fachhochschule Dortmund and history, politics, and educational science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. His works have been eagerly awaited, and the Hoesch Museum is thrilled to be hosting this significant exhibition.
