TaDa Gaming enters South Africa via Betway despite murky online casino laws
TaDa Gaming has expanded into South Africa by launching its slot portfolio through a partnership with Betway. The move comes under a Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) licence, despite ongoing legal uncertainty around online casino games in the country. Players can now access popular titles like Ocean Hunter and Ocean King Jackpot on the platform.
The company, already active in Africa through its *betPawa* brand, was named SiGMA's Africa Slot Newcomer of the Year in 2025. This latest deal strengthens its position in a market projected to generate R80bn ($4.2bn) in annual gambling revenue by 2030.
South Africa's online gambling laws remain unclear. While the National Gambling Act bans online slots, roulette, blackjack, and live dealer games, their enforcement varies by province. Betway continues to operate by partnering with provincial gambling sites licensed by state regulators. The company maintains it complies with local laws and views the current restrictions as limited in scope.
TaDa Gaming's Director of Business Development, Ray Lee, highlighted the importance of partnerships like Betway for growing their brand in South Africa. The deal allows local players to access a range of slot games, including the *Fortune Gems* series, *Crazy 777*, and *Devil Fire 2*. Despite a warning letter from the National Gambling Board in late 2025, no further legal action has been reported against operators like Betway in most provinces. Looking ahead, TaDa Gaming expects regulatory shifts within the next few years. The company anticipates a move toward a fully regulated market model, which could clarify the legal status of online casino games in South Africa.
The partnership between TaDa Gaming and Betway brings new slot titles to South African players, despite the current legal grey area. With the market set to grow significantly by 2030, both companies are positioning themselves for potential regulatory changes. For now, operators continue to navigate provincial licensing while awaiting clearer national guidelines.
