Tablets Expected to Drive Sales for Best Buy During Holiday Period

In the upcoming holiday season, electronics retail giant Best Buy is anticipating a shift in consumer preferences, with Tablet PCs expected to take the spotlight as the top-selling item.

Shawn Score, president of Bestbuy Mobile, has expressed optimism that customers will associate Best Buy with Tablet PCs, moving away from the previous focus on e-readers. This prediction comes after the success of the Amazon Kindle last year, which sold over a million e-readers in December.

However, it's important to note that the expert insights on this transition come from Michael Kozlowski, a Vancouver-based writer who specialises in audiobooks, e-books, and e-readers, but not specifically Tablet PCs.

Best Buy is reportedly making preparations to stock a variety of Tablets powered by Microsoft Windows, with at least four to seven new models expected to appear in stores. Rumours also suggest the arrival of the Samsung GalaxyTab at Best Buy this season.

Despite the anticipated surge in Tablet PC sales, e-reader sales are expected to remain robust due to recent price decreases and their availability in retail settings. The Kindle is now available in retail chains, while the Barnes and Noble Nook and Kobo E-Reader can be found at Best Buy and Chapters/Indigo, respectively.

It's worth mentioning that, as of now, most Best Buy locations only carry the Apple iPad. Best Buy is reportedly working on getting the new Rocketfish Tablet PC, but specific details about the new tablets that Best Buy will offer this season are currently scarce.

Michael Kozlowski's work does not discuss the sales figures of the Amazon Kindle during the holiday season, the sales of e-readers such as the Barnes and Noble Nook and Kobo E-Reader, or the holiday season's top item being Tablet PCs. He is also not associated with Best Buy.

As the holiday season approaches, it will be interesting to see how the market for Tablet PCs evolves and whether Best Buy's predictions for the top-selling item prove to be correct.
