Swiss romcom Ewigi Liebi and streaming gems light up Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day arrives on February 14, bringing a fresh selection of romantic films to streaming platforms and cinemas. Among the new releases is Ewigi Liebi, a Swiss musical romcom now playing at blue Cinema. The film adapts a beloved 2007 stage production, blending nostalgia, humour, and a time-travel twist.

For those staying in, platforms like blue Video, Netflix, and Apple TV are offering everything from lighthearted comedies to melancholic love stories.

Swiss director Pierre Monnard helms Ewigi Liebi, a cinematic take on Switzerland's most successful musical. The story follows former lovers Heidi and Daneli, who reunite 30 years after their breakup in the Emmental region. Monnard, known for Platzspitzbaby and Hallo Betty, worked closely with the original creators—Roman Riklin (book and music) and Dominik Flaschka—to keep the 90s charm while adding modern flair. The film's jukebox format features well-known Swiss pop songs, staying true to the musical's emotional and comedic roots.

Streaming services are also rolling out romantic titles for the occasion. blue Video offers Eternity, a surprising and heartfelt romance, alongside The Postman, a fairy-tale love story, and The Jungle Book, a unique take on romance. The platform's blue SuperMax package includes The Battle of the Roses, a light and funny relationship comedy, and Love Actually, a sharp British comedy free from clichés.

Elsewhere, Past Lives brings a gentle yet sorrowful love story to blue Video, while Netflix features The Girls from the Last Row, a touching Spanish series about friendship and love. Apple TV is renting Forget Me Not, a surreal and melancholic film exploring the complexities of love.

Ewigi Liebi marks Pierre Monnard's latest project, blending music, nostalgia, and romance for cinema audiences. Meanwhile, streaming platforms provide a mix of genres, from uplifting comedies to bittersweet dramas. The options cater to different tastes, ensuring viewers can find something fitting for Valentine's Day.
