Suspected narcotics traffickers apprehended in the act by Operation S.I.E.
In a significant development as part of Project S.I.E., the police in Mülheim-Altstadt made a notable arrest on the 12th of August. The incident unfolded at around 2:45 PM at Hans-Böckler-Platz, a location known for repeated drug dealing activities.
Two men, one a 30-year-old Albanian without a fixed address in Germany, and the other a 23-year-old Albanian, were observed by the police at the location. However, when officers attempted to stop and question them around 4:45 PM, both men fled.
A short chase ensued, during which the 30-year-old suspect discarded a pouch. The pouch was recovered along with the suspect and contained multiple bags believed to be cocaine, approximately 11 grams in gross weight. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested by the officers following the men's escape.
The judge ordered preventive detention for the 30-year-old suspect due to suspicion of illegal trafficking of a substantial amount of cocaine. The Duisburg public prosecutor's office has taken over the investigations against the 30-year-old suspect.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old suspect was found to have a pouch containing cannabis, approximately 17 grams in gross weight. The cannabis and cash (around 450 euros) were seized from the 23-year-old suspect, who is being investigated for trafficking cannabis.
Previous investigations had revealed that Hans-Böckler-Platz was frequently used for drug dealing. The police apprehended both men after the chase, marking a successful operation in the ongoing fight against illegal drug trafficking in the area.
