Super Bowl 2025 sees surge in legal betting as fans prioritize speed and trust
Over half of Super Bowl fans now prefer legal sports betting for the Super Bowl 2025. A recent Paysafe study highlights strong interest in wagering on Super Bowl LX, set to take place in Santa Clara, California. The research also reveals how payment methods and regional regulations shape betting habits across the U.S. and Canada.
The study found that 59% of NFL and Super Bowl fans in several U.S. states and Ontario plan to place bets on game day. Among them, 51% will use legal betting markets, while 27% intend to wager more than they usually do.
Regional differences play a key role in how fans bet. Californians, Texans, and Alberta residents face limited local options due to a lack of regulation. Many may turn to out-of-state platforms or daily fantasy sports instead. Meanwhile, New York and Ontario stand out for their reliance on credit cards, with 51% and 47% of bettors using them, respectively.
Payment preferences vary widely among bettors. Debit cards (43%) and digital wallets (42%) lead as the top choices. Others favour Venmo, Interac e-Transfer, pay-by-bank solutions, and eCash. The study also notes that bettors prioritise fast deposits, quick payouts, and a sportsbook's reputation when selecting where to place their wagers.
The findings suggest a growing trend toward legal betting for major sporting events. With Super Bowl LX approaching, fans are increasingly focused on convenience and trust in their payment methods. The lack of regulation in some regions, however, continues to push bettors toward alternative options.
