Sudokoo Proteus 360 All-In-One Review: Impressive Initial Attempt, Delivering Peak-Performing Sound Levels Despite Background Noise
In the latest round of CPU cooling tests, two AIO coolers have emerged as top performers. The ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro series, specifically tailored for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, has been rated as the best, thanks to its outstanding cooling performance and low noise levels.
Meanwhile, Sudokoo's Proteus AIO has shown impressive results with both AMD and Intel CPUs. In the CPU-only thermal tests with the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, the Proteus AIO delivered a noise-normalized performance that was on par with the best results seen from any AIO.
In the tests, the Proteus AIO outperformed Arctic's Liquid Freezer III Pro by 5C, a significant margin in cooling performance. However, it's important to note that the Proteus AIO exhibits pump whine unless its speed is manually reduced, which can bump up the noise levels to 38.2 dBA. In its default configuration, the noise level remains under 38.2 dBA.
The Proteus AIO also performed well with Intel's i7-14700K, taking third place among coolers paired with this CPU. In the 140W CPU test, the Proteus AIO held its familiar second-place position, with a noise level of 38.2 dBA (inflated by pump whine).
The tests included CPU-only thermal results with Intel's i7-14700K as well. Interestingly, the strongest 360mm AIOs on the market were able to handle this workload without reaching the CPU's peak temperature.
In the noise-equalized tests utilizing AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU, the Proteus AIO had the second-best result. The GPU temperatures during the 150W CPU + 290W GPU test were the best recorded, but there wasn't a huge degree of variance among coolers in this regard.
The Proteus AIO's performance isn't without its caveats. Its particular high price of $270 USD may deter some users. If the pump's default speeds were lowered to avoid pump whine, and the price tag were slightly lower, it would be easier to recommend.
The Proteus AIO comes with an LCD display that can be customized to show a variety of performance metrics or whatever animation or video desired. As of testing, only Arctic's Liquid Freezer III Pro and NZXT's Kraken Plus 360 have passed this test, making these three AIO coolers stand out in the crowd.
