In Münster, Germany, on Tuesday, September 2nd, a historic bomb defusal operation was carried out successfully. The defused bomb, a 250 kg American World War II bomb, was discovered in Admiral-Scheer-Straße, Mauritz-Middle.

The operation involved the bomb disposal service of the Arnsberg regional government, local police, and fire departments, who coordinated evacuations and traffic restrictions near the SC Preussen Münster stadium where the bomb was found. Approximately 180 personnel from these services were on site.

During the evacuation, a care center at the MCC Halle Münsterland was utilised by 38 people. Thankfully, no further injuries or damages were reported during the evacuation or the bomb defusal operation.

The bomb, with its two fuses, was successfully defused by Peter Asmussen, Patrick Engelbert, and Barbara Bremmer from the Westphalia-Lippe Bomb Disposal Service. An image of the trio, taken by the Münster Fire Department, has been made available to the public.

The all-clear was given by the fire department around 17:35, and the evacuated residents were able to return to their homes. The closures of the Münster-Warendorf railway line, the Dortmund-Ems Canal, and the Warendorfer Straße have also been lifted.

The incident caused a significant stir in the city, but with the successful defusal, residents can now breathe a sigh of relief and return to their normal lives. The publication of the press release containing the image is free of charge.
