Subaru's S-Edition Impreza Mimics STI's Exterior, Yet Delivers Performance More Akin to a Leased Vehicle

Subaru Australia Unveils Limited-Edition Impreza S-Design and Crosstrek Onyx

Subaru Australia has made waves in the automotive industry with the launch of two special edition models: the Impreza S-Design and the Crosstrek Onyx. Both vehicles were unveiled in 2025, marking a significant milestone for the brand.

The Impreza S-Design, a limited edition of 100 units, showcases STI upgrades and a design reminiscent of the STI Performance Parts prototype showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023. The model is available in three colours: Pure Red, Crystal Black Silica, and Crystal White Pearl.

Unlike its US counterpart, the Impreza S-Edition does not feature upgrades previously available as options in the Australian configurator. Instead, it retains the same 2.0-liter boxer engine as the Impreza AWD 2.0S. However, it boasts sharper aerodynamics, including a front splitter, rear skirt, and roof spoiler, giving it a sportier look.

The Impreza S-Design rides on 18-inch Enkei wheels with red STI emblems, and it features a unique sports grille with a distinctive mesh pattern. Inside, it sports an STI-branded start button and a matching shift knob.

The Impreza S-Design is priced at AU$42,490 or approximately US$27,700, making it AU$3,500 (US$2,300) more expensive than the Impreza AWD 2.0S.

Meanwhile, the Crosstrek Onyx special edition is priced at AU$ 43,890 ($28,500), AU$ 1,500 (US$ 975) more expensive than the regular Crosstrek AWD 2.0S trim. It features 18-inch alloy wheels finished in dark metallic and a black rear spoiler.

The Crosstrek Onyx, like its sibling the Impreza S-Design, is not a proper performance-focused version of its respective model, despite Subaru's rich rallying heritage. Both models, however, offer extra features that justify their higher prices.

It's important to note that Australians do not have the option of the more powerful 2.5-liter boxer engine available in other regions.

The Impreva S-Design and the Crosstrek Onyx are limited-edition models, each with its unique charm and appeal. They offer a touch of exclusivity to Subaru enthusiasts in Australia, adding an extra layer of excitement to the brand's already impressive lineup.
