"Stunning victory": Oberdorf's return in Bayern Supercup triumph
In the much-anticipated Supercup match, Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg faced off at the BBBank Wildpark in Karlsruhe, with 16,933 spectators in attendance.
The first half of the game saw a back-and-forth battle, but it was VfL Wolfsburg who struck first. Vivien Endemann and Janina Minge found the back of the net for Wolfsburg, giving them a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, new coach José Barcala introduced Lena Oberdorf, Bühl, and Harder into the game, and it proved to be a game-changer for Bayern. Oberdorf, who made her competitive comeback after a 410-day absence due to a cruciate ligament injury, scored a penalty for Bayern.
Bayern's comeback was further boosted by a fantastic volley from Lea Schüller from the 16-meter line. Magdalena Eriksson opened Bayern's account with a powerful shot from 17 meters into the top left corner, making it 2-1.
Justine Kielland was shown a yellow-red card for a foul on Lena Oberdorf, and Georgia Stanway scored a penalty for Bayern to make it 3-2. Jovana Damnjanovic added another goal for Bayern, shaking off her marker and scoring a hard shot under the crossbar.
Stina Johannes made a few uncertain appearances in goal for Wolfsburg, and Stanway scored another penalty for Bayern to secure a 4-2 victory. Wolfsburg's only goal in the second half came from Endemann, who capitalised on a mistake by Zadrazil and Stanway in Bayern's penalty area after a Wolfsburg corner.
Notably, Giulia Gwinn was not able to play in the Supercup due to an internal band injury at the Euros. Magdalene Eriksson, Jovana Damnjanovic, Lea Schüller, and Georgia Stanway scored for Bayern, while only two new players, Johannes and Levels, were in Wolfsburg's starting lineup.
After the match, Lena Oberdorf described her comeback as "extremely beautiful" and was pleased that no one at her former club had forgotten her and that everyone was happy to see her back on the pitch.
