Struck Misfortune: Vehicle went off road and landed in a ditch
A traffic accident occurred on August 20th at 00:30 on federal road 51 near Blankenheim-Blankenheimerdorf. The driver involved in the incident was a 22-year-old man from the Netherlands who was traveling from Blankenheim towards Dahlem.
The accident took place when the driver failed to notice a detour caused by roadworks at the junction with the federal road 258. As a result, he drove over a traffic island and collided with the guardrail of the opposite lane. The impact was so severe that it tore the guardrail from its anchorage.
The vehicle slid underneath the torn guardrail and came to a stop in a ditch. Both the driver and his 21-year-old female passenger were injured in the accident. They were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The car was significantly damaged in the accident, with the vehicle's undercarriage being exposed due to the collision with the guardrail. The accident caused a temporary closure of the B 51 road, causing delays for other motorists.
The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident and are urging drivers to be cautious when driving through roadworks and detours. It is important to always pay attention to road signs and follow traffic rules to ensure the safety of all road users.
