The city of Wiesbaden is continuing to implement its bike traffic concept, as evidenced by the recent transformation of Mosbacher Straße and Lessingstraße into bike streets. This move is part of the city's ongoing efforts to improve bike infrastructure and promote environmentally friendly mobility.

Mosbacher Straße, a section that already boasts a low volume of car traffic, further enhances its suitability as a bike street. The roadworks related to the B27 construction project in Mosbach saw the street being converted into a bicycle lane on Monday. Although no specific individual or entity responsible for this change is named in the available sources, the Mosbacher Straße will officially be designated as a "bike street."

Similarly, the state capital of Wiesbaden has designated Lessingstraße between Mainzer Straße and Frankfurter Straße as a bike street. This 450-meter-long stretch provides a direct and safe bike route, and its bike lane has been clearly marked with signs and road markings. Bikers may ride side by side on this bike street, which has priority, as stated in the traffic regulations.

In one section, use of the Lessingstraße is restricted to residents; access to properties remains unrestricted. This designation closes a gap in the bike traffic network and creates a connection from the southeastern city center to St. Josefs-Hospital and further towards the main station.

The city's bike-friendly initiatives don't stop there. Work on installing bike facilities in Friedrich-Ebert-Allee will result in a full closure at the intersection of Friedrich-Ebert-Allee/Lessingstraße on Wednesday. Bike lanes and bike parking spaces are also being added in various parts of the city.

The transformation of these streets also includes measures to increase traffic safety. For instance, a marked safety zone between parked and moving traffic reduces the risk of "door accidents" on Lessingstraße, significantly increasing overall safety on the street.

It's worth noting that public parking spaces are not affected by these measures. The already low volume of car traffic in these sections further underscores the suitability of these streets for bikes.

As Wiesbaden continues to prioritise environmentally friendly transportation, it's clear that its bike traffic concept is here to stay. With more bike streets and facilities in the pipeline, the city is set to become even more bike-friendly in the future.
